At the May Flamenco Evening, we will show the real Andalusian flamenco school, since an excellent dancer from Seville - Asunción Pérez “Choni” - will come to Wrocław. She will be accompanied by a known flamenco singer Borja Soto, and a great Javier Gómez will play the guitar. A masterful, purely Spanish lineup will take us on a journey to the exceptionally beautiful and sunny Seville.
Asunción Pérez „Choni” is a dancer, choreographer, educator and director of CHONI CÍA. FLAMEN. She was born in Seville and graduated from the Conservatory of Music and Dance in this city. She started her professional career as a soloist and as part of the artistic cast of dance groups, e.g. Mario Maya and Eva Yerbabuena.
In 2007, she decided to start her own company, successfully presenting her first performance "Tejidos al Tiempo" and receiving the Giraldillo "REVELACIÓN" award at the XV Bienal de Arte Flamenco de Sevilla 2008.
Since then, the CHONI CÍA group. FLAMENCA has in its repertoire shows such as "Dos en Compañía", "Retahíla", "Flamenco a tres", "El Huésped", "Flamenco Tratado", "Sombra de tu sombra", "Malgama 1.1" and "La Gloria de mi mare” - the latter awarded the ESCENARIOS DE SEVILLA AWARDS 2011 for the best theatrical performance, the best theater actor (Juanjo Macías) and the TEATRO ANDALUZ 2014 AWARDS for the best actor and best lighting. In addition, it was nominated for the MAX 2014 DE LAS ARTES ESCÉNICAS AWARDS for the best dance show and the best dancer, and since its premiere at the Bienal de Arte Flamenco de Sevilla in 2010, it has consistently enjoyed great success among critics and audiences. Most recently, she has created shows: "Reencuentro" and "Compás de espera", the latter being her most personal, intimate and emotional work.
Choni's dance, the prototype of the Escuela Sevillana dance style, is characterized by elegance, femininity, grace, mastery of arms, hands and feet, as well as freedom and mastery in using bata de cola.
Borja Soto is a Spanish flamenco singer living in Poland, originally from Seville. He has been performing in Poland since 2013 in various formations during such events as: Unfinished House / European Songs as part of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016 cycle, Jazz in Palaces - Moszna Castle, Duende Festival in Poznań, Polish Dance Platform, Folk Inspirations Łódź, Ethno Jazz Festival Wrocław, European Capital of Culture - inauguration 2016, Festival of Music in Bukowiec, International Folklore Festival in Zielona Góra, BRAVE Together, Festival Window to the World in Gdańsk. Scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. Artistic director of the Flamenco Evenings concert series and Ciudad de Duendes Flamenco Festival. Founder of the band Los Duendes, in which he writes lyrics and songs.
Javier Gómez ''Cuadrao'', born in Madrid, discovered his passion for flamenco guitar at a young age and initially learned on his own, then spent five years improving his playing skills under the supervision of master Ramón Ortega at Casa Patas and at the school of guitarist Fernando Mejías in Vallecas. In 2014, he studied the basics of music at the Waltons School of Music in Dublin, and a year later he moved to Seville to expand his knowledge at the Cristina Heeren de Arte Flamenco Foundation, where for five years he simultaneously studied and worked as an assistant, gaining knowledge from such flamenco guitar masters as Paco Cortés, Pedro Sierra, Niño de Pura and others. He also studied dance accompaniment for a year from Miguel Pérez. His style is a guitar playing tied to the flamenco tradition, modest and with a great sense of how to accompany not only singing, but also dancing. In recent years, he has played for dancers in many competitions in Andalusia, as well as at flamenco festivals in Poland and Italy. Currently, he works as an accompanying guitarist in numerous "tablaos" on the Seville stage, combining these performances with official flamenco guitar studies at the "Rafael Orozco" Major Conservatory in Cordoba.
