FLAMENCO EVENING: Sułkowska, Soto, Kowaliński

On the last Sunday of May, the Gothic Hall will be filled with flamenco sounds. The atmosphere of southern Spain will be created by the dancer Anita Sułkowska, vocalist Borja Soto and guitarist Damian Kowaliński. The concert will be accompanied by the tasting and sale of Spanish regional products. We invite you on a journey to Mediterranean culture.

Anita Sułkowska is a graduate of the Academy of Music in Katowice and Philosophy at the University of Silesia. She has been dancing flamenco for 13 years. Initially, she was encouraged to flamenco by classical Spanish music and films by Carlos Saura. She went to the first class with a slight reserve, but this impulse gave birth to her passion. Since then, she has been extensively trained in Poland and abroad. For 5 years she attended the "Triana" flamenco school in Warsaw, where she trained under the supervision of Marta Dębska. She regularly travels to the cradle of flamenco - Seville, to study with Spanish maestros. Her teachers were, among others: Juan Polvillo, Belen Lopez, Leonor Leal, Angel Atienza, Alicia Marquez, Maria Moreno, Rafael Campallo, Andres Pena, Isabel Bayon, Irene Alvarez, Concha Vargas, Carmen Ledesma, Ramon Martinez, Soraya Clavijo, Ana Morales, Choni Perez Garcia, Ursula Lopez and others. She is also the founder of the "Flamenco Ensemble" with its original compositions. She has performed, inter alia, in Madrid, at the invitation of the Polish embassy, ​​with the project "Tablao Chopin".

 

Borja Soto is currently the only Spanish flamenco singer residing in Poland, from Seville. He has been performing in Poland since 2013 in various formations during such events as: Unfinished house / European songs as part of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016 cycle, Jazz in Palaces - Moszna Castle, Duende Festival in Poznań, Polish Dance Platform, Folk Inspirations Łódź, Ethno Jazz Festival Wrocław, European Capital of Culture - inauguration 2016, Music Festival in Bukowiec, International Folklore Festival in Zielona Góra, BRAVE Together. Artistic director of the Flamenco Evenings concert series. Leader of the international band Los Duendes.

 

Damian Kowaliński is the first Polish flamenco guitarist who, in the academic year 2011/2012, received a scholarship for outstanding results in learning to play the guitar at the internationally recognized school Fundación de Arte Flamenco Cristina Heeren in Seville, where he took lessons from masters of this genre. Currently, he lives in Poland and regularly performs in Poland and abroad with the most outstanding artists. He regularly invites musicians and dancers from Spain, introducing the Polish audience to the art of flamenco in its authentic form. Damian Kowaliński is primarily an active musician, but also a composer and teacher of flamenco guitar.
