On the 23rd of October 2016 the Guitar Masters 2016 festival audience will take part in an extraordinary musical expedition. Trio Arcoluz consisting of a 5 strings double bassist Renaud Garcia-Fons, flamenco guitarist Kiko Ruiz and drummer Pascal Rollando will discover the melancholic beauty, magic, joy and emotionality of Spanish-inspired music. The passion and technical excellence of the musicians guarantee that the performance will become a memorable musical experience. The concert will take place in National Forum of Music in Wrocław.

Renaud Garcia-Fons, a double bass virtuoso and composer born in Paris, France, is well-known for both his superb technique and innovative approach. The art of improvisation and cross-cultural inspirations became signature features of his music. However, it is the fifth string he added to his double bass which makes the double bassist one of his kind. The additional string turned the double bass, perceived as an accompanying instrument, into an ensemble’s equal improvising voice. That innovation combined with Garcia-Fons’ exquisite pizzicato and con arco techniques elevated the double bass performance to the level unknown before. That is why, he is seen as one of true musical innovators such as Astor Piazzolla, Jimi Hendrix and Paco de Lucía.

Garcia-Fons incorporates many different influences into his music. His collaboration with various jazz ensembles such as Orchestre de Contrebasses and Orchestre National de Jazz directed by Claude Berthélémy allowed him to deepen his knowledge of improvisation. Besides jazz, he feels also very comfortable with contemporary classical music, the music of Orient and Mediterranean. He has successfully transposed the Flamenco music to the double bass and, as the first double bassist, won prestigious Flamenco award Giraldillo de Oro at the Bienal de Flamenco de Sevilla. He has released 11 recordings on the Enja Records label. He has led varied ensembles, among them Oriental Bass ensemble, Navigatore 5tet and 8tet and the Arcoluz trio, which we will be able to enjoy at the Guitar Masters 2016 festival.
